Because of the abuse of the ESA it is posing considerable burdens on more and more people everyday. Has your land, if you own any, been taken over by the environmentalists yet? Have been restricted from such normal activities on your land such as farming, harvesting your timber, etc.? Preventing landowners from doing these things is something we should get used to?

I think not. The ESA did do some good in it's day. It is outdated and lacks any means to prevent ridiculous lawsuits by out of whack animal rights groups who would rather see the economy of the U.S. crumble than back off.

How the U.S. ranks in environmental issues depends on whose spin you want to listen to. If you read the New York Times rag this morning, the U.S. is at the bottom. Of course, they failed to mention anything about how that environmental impact measured up when comparing industrial output. When the U.S. economy is larger than the next 5 country's output are we still to have less industrial output like smog, carbon dioxide, etc.?

Whether one perceives George Bush as being a good or bad president when it comes to the environment is also up in the air. He has done more for the environment in some ways than any other president before him yet he gets not credit. He gets dumped on hard from environmentalists because he feels the need to open up federal land to activities like logging, drilling, etc. to keep our people working and find ways to reduce our dependencies on oil etc.

The people cry for help but only want the help that suits their agendas. In times like this often a president makes unpopular decisions.

I find it disturbing that you seem to think that owning property gives you the distinct pleasure of only being able to pay inflated taxes for more social programs, more programs that further strip away the individual rights of others. This attitude is never what made this country great and free. This attitude will destroy it.

The ultimate in the American dream is to own land. There is no purpose anymore it seems. People like you want a share of my land too and you want to tell me I can't have a horse, or cut my trees to pay my taxes, or plow a garden.

What are you willing to give up for your Komrads?

Anyone can find problems with any legislation, but that doesn't mean that on balance it hasn't served a valuable purpose. Such is the case with the ESA and state versions, which--while they do impose some burdens on private landowners--have prevented tremendous amounts of habitat loss in the USA. Despite the ESA the US still finishes last among developed nations in environmental protection, so it's not enough. You rugged individualists are gonna have to come to grips with the idea that you share the world with 6 billion people and you don't get to do whatever you want, even on your own property. That, in fact, is the problem with this country, the idea that everybody gets to do what they want, regardless of how it affects everyone else. That is the basic notion behind the greed that pervades our society, and it is going to be proven wrong eventually. MIghta worked fine 100,000 years ago, it doesn't now. The ESA needs to be strenghthened in ways that foster cooperation between landowners, hunters, and environmentalists. It can be done. Not by George Bush, who is a consummate anus and the worst environmental president we have ever had.
